Carers of East Lothian (0131 6650135)

Do you look after a relative or friend? Carers of East Lothian are here to help. Support and information is provided to people who are caring for a relative or friend. Areas such as benefits, breaks from caring or exploring what support is available in your local community are all covered.

Please make contact with Emma, the Carer Support worker on the telephone number above or email address below.  Emma will then invite you along to the peer support drop in sessions to meet other carers for a monthly carer support group. This is held on the second Tuesday of every month in the Nether Abbey Hotel, 10:30am to 12:00pm.

For carers who are unable to avail of above, a Carer Support Worker can be organised to visit you in your home.

Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland (0845 600 2227)

CBCS exists to promote the well-being of bereaved people in Scotland.  They seek to help anyone experiencing bereavement to understand their grief and cope with their loss.  They work primarily through volunteers, providing free care to bereaved people.  No one need struggle alone with the death of a loved one, CBCS is here and ready to help.

Podiatry (0131 536 1627)

NHS podiatry is available by appointment. GP referral is not essential but may be advisable if you have a medical problem affecting your feet.

Community Psychiatric Nurse (0131 536 8300)

The CPN performs regular counselling at the health centre. All referrals are through the doctors.

Counselling Clinic (01620 893263)

Referrals can be made through the doctor or any health care professional within the practice.

Community Health Services

Community Midwife (07903 969580 Wednesday’s only, 01620 642707 all other times)

There is a community midwife who holds antenatal and postnatal clinics. She makes regular visits to expectant mothers and to mothers and babies for 10 days after birth. A midwife is always on call and can be contacted through Roodlands switchboard by calling 0131 242 2657 out-of-hours. If you have had a positive pregnancy test, please see all you need to know here

Health Visitors (01620 897038/897014)

The team offers support and advice on:

• Babies and children

• Parenthood

• Pregnancy

Clinics/classes are available for:

• Child development clinics by appointment

• Childhood immunisations by appointment on Monday mornings. Immunisation clinics are run by a team of
  nurses who cover the whole of East Lothian

• Bumps and Babies at Gullane Health Centre every Thursday term time between 11.00 am and 12.00 pm

  for under 1’s

Scales are available in the waiting area, North Berwick, which parents may use for babies under a year old.

Practice Nurse Services

There are two Practice Nurses. All nurses are available by appointment in the treatment room.

Their duties include:

  • Blood tests (as requested via a GP)
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Cervical smears/swabs
  • Chronic disease clinics
  • Contraceptive implants
  • Family planning/HRT
  • Lifestyle advice
  • Minor surgery assistance
  • Warfarin monitoring

All practice staff are legally bound to preserve the confidentiality of patients records.
