Travel Advice/Vaccinations

NHS offers a pan Lothian specialist travel clinic service that provides you with information, vaccinations and medication tailored to your trip. This replaces the previous travel vaccination service provided by GP Surgeries.

Please see weare.nhslothian.scot/travelclinics/ for more detailed information and contact details.

Minor Surgery

Drs Salucci & Mulrine carry out minor operations on patients of the practice requiring surgical treatment. Patients should discuss this with their own doctor who will advise on what treatment is available.

Meningitis C Immunisation

This is available to young people aged from 16-25 years. Those most at risk are patients attending colleges or universities.

Influenza Vaccination Clinics

Each year all patients over 65 years and those of all ages who suffer from asthma, chronic heart disease, diabetes, or chronic kidney problems are offered a ‘flu jab’. These vaccinations are provided free. Pneumovax vaccine also is offered to patients in the above groups and should provide immunity for approximately 10 years.

Family Planning and Contraception

All the doctors advise on family planning and contraception. Intrauterine Contraceptive Devices (IUCDs) can be fitted or replaced by Drs Mulrine, Doldon or Dr Clark. IUCD checks are done by the Practice Nurse.

Chronic Disease Clinics

The Practice Nurses run annual review clinics on various diseases including:

• Asthma/Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

• Coronary Heart Disease

• Epilepsy

• Stroke/TIA

• Hypertension

• Hypothyroidism

• Diabetes

The Practice Nurse will invite patients to attend for a 15-minute review on an annual basis. The Doctors recommend that patients attend these clinics in order to monitor their condition.

Child Health Checks

Drs Clark, Doldon and Mulrine offer 6 week baby checks by appointment for all babies in the practice. These checks are carried out in conjunction with the Health Visitor. A separate child health/baby clinic is held on Thursday afternoons and is run by the Health Visitors.

Cervical Smears

The doctors recommend 3-yearly smears for women aged 25-49 years and every 5 years from the age of 50-64. Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse.

Non-NHS Charges

All work not covered by the NHS will incur a charge.

Smoking Cessation

The practice supports smokers who wish to stop smoking by offering appropriate therapy and literature. Patients can self refer to Quit Your Way East Lothian on https://www.nhsinform.scot/scotlands-service-directory/health-and-wellbeing-services/13284%201elo1116
